Baby Steps

Remember that time I said I was going to run a 5k before the end of the year???

Well I still haven't done it yet. But I'm getting there!!

On Saturday Zac, Hill, John and I all ran the Hess Cancer Foundation 2 mile fun run on Legacy Highway. It was pretty cool! My very first "Here, let me pay you $30 and then I'll run till I feel like I'm going to drop dead!" experience. So now we all have matching long sleeved t-shirts, and we all know we have just a bit more practice to do before daring to sign up for a 5k. For the race they had the highway shut down and we ran right on it so that was pretty cool. Minus all the pancake-like skunks, it's a really great place to jog! I also felt pretty cool that the people who finished before us and the other spectators cheered us across the finish line. I guess now I know how Usain Bolt must have felt last summer :O) So then we hung around and cheered for all the half marathon runners as they started trickling in. I swear some of those guys must have weighed 90 lbs! And here's my question... what the heck do those guys listen to on their ipods that could possibly give them the motivation to run 13 miles?? Because even Queen blasting "Don't Stop Me Now!" in my ears...

I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go there's no stopping me
I'm burning through the sky yea
Two hundred degrees that's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light

barely gets me through the 5 minute duration of the song and that's the jolliest song I've ever heard in my life.

Anyway, it was no 5k and I wasn't able to run the entire thing without little walking breaks (duh, but I'm getting there!) but it was pretty exciting nonetheless.

Okay I might be a total idiot - especially since I served my mission in Europe and should know how many miles there are in a kilometer, but it seems to me that 5K is right around 2.5 - 3 miles, no? If that's true, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You could TOTALLY RUN A 5K - especially since you just did 2 miles!

Mallory, that's awesome. I've always wanted to run in something like that. We had to make up our own little marathon (definitly not a full marathon though) because we couldn't afford the real one (ha). Anyway, good luck on your 5k. That's a great goal.

Yay! Good Job! You're looking great Mallory! When you have a chance will you ask your sister to sent her boy making genes my way and I will do the same for her? Oh and can we get together for a football game or something this fall?

Hi, I've only just noticed you left a comment on my blog a while back.

When I said 'does anyone actually read this' I certainly didn't expect a reply from a stranger'

I'm pretty knackered right now (all that training) but am looking forward to having a read of your blog when I'm more awake.

Thank you for your comment.
